Ghanaian-descendant defender Samuel Amissah joins Estoril Praia on loan from Fulham




English centre-back of Ghanaian descent Samuel Amissah has completed a move to Portuguese top-flight club Estoril Praia on a season-long loan from Premier League side Fulham FC.The 19-year-old defender will spend the 2026/27 season in Portugal as he looks to gain valuable first-team experience and continue his development away from England for the first time in his career.Amissah began his football journey at the Brentford academy before joining Fulham, where he emerged as one of the clubs highly-rated young defenders.He made his Fulham Under-21 debut during the 2023/24 campaign at just 17 years old and played a role in the teams successful season, which culminated in victory in the U21 Premier League Cup.The promising centre-back also received an opportunity with Fulhams senior side, making his first-team debut during the Premier League Summer Series in Orlando, United States, against Aston Villa.At international level, Amissah has represented England across several youth categories.His international career began with the Under-16 team in the 2022/23 season before progressing through the Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 teams.He has accumulated 26 youth international appearances and registered one assist.Speaking after completing his move to Estoril Praia, Amissah expressed his excitement about testing himself in a new environment.This is an opportunity to show what I can do on a bigger stage and, on a personal level, to test my abilities against strong opponents, he said.Amissah described himself as a highly competitive and proactive defender who enjoys taking the initiative while remaining composed in possession.Im very competitive. I like to take the initiative instead of reacting to what happens, with a mentality that prioritizes defensive security, but Im also calm with the ball at my feet. I always want to compete and win, he explained.The teenager also highlighted the importance of the lessons he learned at Fulham, particularly regarding professionalism, consistency and taking responsibility both on and off the pitch.Estoril Praia will be Amissahs first club outside England, giving the young defender an opportunity to experience Portuguese football and compete in a different tactical and cultural environment.I hope to become someone respected in this field. Someone that people can admire for my actions, always maintaining humility, he added.Amissah will wear the number 35 shirt during his loan spell at Estoril Praia and will be hoping to make a strong impression in Portugal before returning to Fulham.
