BELGA PHOTO KURT DESPLENTERGhanaian youth Joseph Opoku has achieved a tremendous milestone, as he helped Belgian club Zulte Waregem achieve promotion to the Belgian Pro League.Waregem sealed their comeback to the top tier with a close 2-1 victory over RWD Molenbeek at the Elindus Arena on Friday night, making them champions of the Challenger Pro League with 59 points.Opoku, a dynamic 19-year-old striker, was brought on from the substitutes’ bench in the 67th minute and immediately made his mark.With four minutes left on the clock, he provided a magnificent assist for veteran striker Jelle van Vossen, whose clinical finish sealed the win and completed a dominant season for the club.The assist was a fitting contribution by the young Ghanaian, who has steadily become an integral part of the team.Throughout the season, Opoku played 26 times in the league, notching 3 goals and making 8 assists.Opoku’s emergence is a sign of growing dominance of Ghanaian players offshore, and as Belgian top-flight football beckons, the young player has an even brighter future in store.His development with Waregem will be watched very closely as he prepares for the next level in confronting tougher sides in the Pro League next term.
