Hearts of Oak in advanced talks with Prosper Ogum over head coach role – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

Hearts of Oak are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Prosper Narteh Ogum to become the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Ogum, who currently handles Ghana’s U-17 team, is being considered as the man to lead the Phobians after the departure of Mas-Ud Didi Dramani following an underwhelming campaign.

The former Asante Kotoko coach recently guided the Black Starlets to the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, but Ghana failed to progress from the group stage and missed out on qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Despite the setback at youth level, Hearts are understood to view Ogum as a coach capable of rebuilding the team and restoring competitiveness after a disappointing season that ended without silverware.

Ogum has not managed a club side since leaving Asante Kotoko in 2025 following his second spell with the Kumasi-based club.

His first stint between 2021 and 2022 proved highly successful as he guided Kotoko to the Ghana Premier League title with an impressive unbeaten home campaign. However, his return for a second spell did not produce similar results and eventually ended in disappointment.

Hearts of Oak are now looking for a fresh direction after another difficult season in which the club struggled for consistency and failed to challenge for major honours.

The club hierarchy are believed to be keen on appointing a coach with strong knowledge of the domestic league and experience handling pressure at one of Ghana’s biggest clubs.

Should negotiations progress successfully, Ogum would become one of the few coaches in recent years to manage both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
