RALEIGH, N.C. Methodist women’s soccer earned a 1-1 draw with Meredith College in USA South action Tuesday evening at the Meredith Track & Field Complex. Junior Emily Hoyt netted her first goal of the season in the second half to help the Monarchs secure a point on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless opening half I which both sides managed just a handful of looks, the Avenging Angels struck first early in the second frame. In the 48th minute, Ellie Heney took a pass from Lucy Miller and finished to the far post for a 1-0 Meredith advantage.
- The Monarchs pushed back with wave after wave of pressure, firing off nine shots in the second half alone. The breakthrough came in the 72nd minute when Hoyt collected the ball from a shot off the crossbar and slotted it home to level the match at 1-1.
- Despite several late chances for both sides, including three shots from Meredith in the closing minutes, neither team was able to find the go-ahead goal.
NUMBERS
- Both sides attempt 11 shots but Methodist held the edge in shots on goal, five to three.
- Freshman Brynn Ludka was the only Monarch to record more than one shot, leading the team with five, including two on net.
- Senior Carolina Simpkins got the start in net for the Monarchs, and she made two saves on the night.
