Isak achieves Newcastle feat even Shearer couldn’t manage

Alexander Isak is one of the hottest forwards in world football right now and the Newcastle striker was in the goals again against Brentford.

Isak opened the scoring in Newcastle’s 2-1 win over Brentford on Wednesday night, as the Magpies moved within a point of the Premier League’s top four.

The Swedish striker has now scored 24 goals in all competitions and has reached 20 in the league for the second straight season.

He is the first Newcastle player to score 20 Premier League goals in consecutive campaigns, an achievement even the great Alan Shearer did not manage in black and white.

Shearer scored a club-record 206 goals in all competitions for Newcastle but never scored 20 league goals in back-to-backs seasons. He did reach the milestone four times for Newcastle, but never consecutively with his 20-goal campaigns coming in 1996/97, 1999/00, 2001/02 and 2003/04. Shearer did score 30+ Premier League goals for Blackburn Rovers in three successive seasons during the mid-nineties.

Isak, however, is the first to reach 20+ goals in straight seasons for Newcastle to reaffirm his status as one of Europe’s best number nines. There’s good reason clubs are queuing up to tempt him from Tyneside.
