Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has pointed to poor pitch conditions as a key factor in Ghana’s frustrating 1-1 draw against Chad in N’Djamena.

Addo explained that the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno’s dry surface slowed his team’s passing game and limited their usual attacking rhythm.

“I think surely we wanted to have ball possession, but it’s very difficult to play on this pitch when it’s not watered. We can’t play fast. It’s a disadvantage for us because the boys play in Europe on wet pitches, they can move the ball quickly. But the pitch was very slow, and it was difficult to outplay defenders,” Addo said.

The coach also gave credit to Chad for their defensive resilience, saying they “did well to deny too many chances.”

Despite creating several opportunities, Ghana could not add to Jordan Ayew’s early strike, allowing Chad to equalise late in the contest.

Ghana still lead Group I with 16 points, but Mali (13) and Comoros (12) are closing in ahead of next week’s decisive clash between Ghana and Mali in Accra.
