Karim Zito regrets missing chance to bid farewell to Asante Kotoko fans – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

Abdul Karim Zito has expressed regret over not being able to personally say goodbye to Asante Kotoko supporters following his resignation as head coach.

The Porcupine Warriors boss stepped down after the club’s Round of 16 exit from the MTN FA Cup at the hands of Aduana FC on Sunday.

Zito, who took charge in July last year, led Kotoko to victory in the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup and won four trophies during his brief tenure.

Speaking to Asempa FM on his departure, he said, “I am a legend of the club, and if an issue arises, you need to remain calm and talk things out. I have resigned, and that is it. I would have wished to say goodbye to the fans for their support. I have been on the job for barely a year, and I won four trophies.”

Kotoko have struggled in recent weeks, securing just one win in their last five Premier League matches, leaving them fifth on the table, eight points behind leaders Medeama SC.

Prince Owusu, Zito’s first assistant, has been named interim coach, with Mohammed Hamza Obeng, head coach of the junior side, providing support.

The Porcupine Warriors will look to regain momentum when they host rivals Hearts of Oak in their week 22 clash, aiming to stabilize the team and build on the foundation Zito helped establish.
