Asante Kotoko legend Samuel Opoku Nti has described Abdul Kari Zito’s exit from the Porcupine Warriors as premature, stressing it would have been prudent for the experienced tactician to see out the Super Clash against Hearts of Oak before departing the club.
Zito stepped down as Kotoko coach days before the Ghana Premier League showdown against sworn-rivals, with assistant trainer Prince Yaw Owusu taking temporal charges of the team.
The match, held at the Baba Yara Stadium ended 1-0 in favour of Hearts of Oak, bringing an end to their long-term winless run against the Porcupine Warriors.
Defender Baba Adamu emerged as the hero of the match after scoring the only goal to snatch maximum points for the Phobians.
Speaking to Kessben FM, Opoku Nti, a former CEO of Kotoko expressed his displeasure about the departure of Zito on the eve of the Super Clash, insisting the results would have been different if the experienced gaffer had led the team.
“For me, Karim Zito’s exit was premature. If I were part of the management, I would have suggested that he stays to face Hearts of Oak before leaving. Our fans were keen about this match and wanted positive results but it didn’t happen. Truth be told, Kotoko and Hearts games can make or unmake both coaches and players” he said.
Currently, Asante Kotoko find themselves in the fifth position on the Ghana Premier League standings with 35 points, nine points behind log leaders, Medeama.
