Hearts of Oak midfielder Kwesi Asmah has described his side’s victory in the 2025 Democracy Cup as a thrilling moment, after his decisive strike sealed a narrow win over Great Olympics.
The Ghanaian forward, who came off the bench to make the difference, netted the game’s only goal in the 70th minute at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Friday evening.
His contribution ensured that the Phobians edged their city rivals 1-0 to lift the second edition of the competition.
“It’s very exciting. This was what we were waiting for and we got the opportunity to win this game,” Asmah told reporters after the match.
The clash, contested in front of a lively crowd, saw both teams cancel each other out in the opening half.
Chances were limited, with neither side able to break the deadlock before the interval. But Asmah’s introduction swung momentum in Hearts’ favour, as his composed finish ultimately proved decisive.
