Liverpool drop out, Barcelona stumble

As we return to club action from the October international break, it’s time for a reminder and update of the Power Rankings table.

📈 Power Rankings: Liverpool drop out, Barcelona stumble

10. Galatasaray 🆕

Galatasaray are Turkey’s finest team right now and followed a huge Champions League win over Liverpool with a spirited performance in the Süper Lig.

Despite conceding within 12 minutes to Besiktas and losing Davinson Sanchez to a red card before half-time, the champions battled back to earn a point. It’s the only blemish on an otherwise perfect league record this season.

9. Man City ⬇️ (last week: 8)

Slight fallers this week due to results elsewhere, despite an important win. Pep Guardiola has switched up the style at Manchester City this season and the club’s 1-0 win over Brentford emphasised that change.

Playing direct to Erling Haaland is hardly the worst tactic, with the Norwegian in red-hot form. City, after a shaky start, are now just three points from the top of the Premier League.

8. AC Milan ⬇️ (last week: 7)

AC Milan are making progress under the wily Massimiliano Allegri. Having slipped to an opening weekend defeat to newly-promoted Cremonese, Milan are since unbeaten in five Serie A games.

A goalless draw with Juventus extended that record, and a lack of European football this season could benefit the Rossoneri.

7. Barcelona ⬇️ (last week: 3)

Barcelona are the big fallers this week. Having missed the chance to send a statement with defeat to an injury-hit PSG side in Europe, the Catalans were thrashed in a shock in Seville.

Alexis Sanchez was on target for the home side against his former team, as Sevilla racked up a stunning 4-1 win. The defending La Liga champions suffered their worst loss against Sevilla since a 4-0 defeat in 1951.

6. Porto 🆕

Porto are a side firmly on the up under Francesco Farioli. A goalless draw with Benfica ended their perfect record in the Primeira Liga, but it’s their only blemish in their last 10 games in all competitions. Porto are coming to reclaim the Portuguese crown.

5. Inter Milan 🆕

In what is expected to be a tightly-fought Serie A this season, Inter Milan have found their mojo again. Five straight wins in all competitions have ensured the Nerazzurri have maximum points in the Champions League and have climbed back in the title picture domestically.

New head coach Cristian Chivu came under pressure early on, but things are working well right now.

4. PSG ⬇️ (last week: 2)

Having dominated our Power Rankings in recent months, PSG find themselves in the unfamiliar region of fourth. A 1-1 draw at Lille made it just one win in three Ligue 1 games for the champions, who are missing Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue, among others.

3. Arsenal ⬆️ (last week: 6)

Arsenal are top of the Premier League with confidence rising that the Gunners can stay there. Mikel Arteta’s side have conceded just once from open play in the league this season, have maximum points in Europe, and injured stars nearing a return.

A 2-0 win over West Ham was the sort of professional performance we’ve come to expect.

2. Real Madrid ⬆️ (last week: 4)

It’s advantage Real Madrid in La Liga, after Los Blancos capitalised on Barcelona’s blunder to take top spot. Vinicius Junior scored twice, with Kylian Mbappe also on target, as 10-man Villarreal were put to the sword at the Bernabeu.

1. Bayern Munich (no change)

10 games have yielded 10 wins for Bayern Munich in all competitions his season. The German champions are purring right now and, while tougher tests await, few look capable of living with them in the Bundesliga.

Harry Kane has been key to their formidable form, averaging a goal or assist every 39 minutes this season.

No, that’s not a typo.
