Liverpool are reportedly continuing talks over a deal to sign Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni, as per TEAMtalk.
Since moving to the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu from AS Monaco, the 26-year-old has enjoyed great success, winning a La Liga title, a Champions League trophy, and several other major cup competitions.
He has featured regularly for Los Blancos in recent years but has played as a rotational option this season, with fitness problems being one of the key reasons.
Having shown glimpses of his qualities in club football, the midfielder has secured his place in the France national team’s starting line-up.
Tchouameni was heavily linked with a move this summer, but the Spanish giants ultimately managed to keep hold of him.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Manchester United were interested in him, while Liverpool held talks with Real Madrid over a potential swoop this summer as they hold a long-standing interest in him.
However, Tchouameni eventually decided to stay in the Spanish capital by signing a fresh term. Still, Liverpool haven’t given up hope of signing him as they are considering signing a new midfielder next year to replace Curtis Jones, who joined Inter Milan this summer.
The Merseyside club have even been holding talks with the player’s representatives to persuade him to join, with Tchouameni valued at around £60m by Transfermarkt.
Tchouameni to Liverpool
Tchouameni, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is a right-footed defensive midfielder by trait but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. Furthermore, he can provide cover in the centre-back position if needed.
He is dynamic, technically sound, good in the air, and tidy with possession. Moreover, he has an eye for long-range passing, possesses powerful shots, and is efficient in defensive contributions.
Tchouameni has proven his worth at the highest level for club and country. He is even currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are set to resume the Premier League campaign with a blockbuster fixture against Manchester City after the international break.
