Manchester United make second signing in two days as Darlow joins Red Devils

Manchester United have signed experienced goalkeeper Karl Darlow to act as back-up to Senne Lammens.

Darlow joined Leeds in 2023 following spells with Nottingham Forest and Newcastle, and usurped Lucas Perri as number one at Elland Road last season, going on to make 22 Premier League appearances and keeping five clean sheets.

The 35-year-old Wales international, who was a free agent, has signed a two-year deal at Old Trafford with the option for a third.

Darlow told the club’s official website: “I am extremely proud to sign for Manchester United. I’m joining an excellent group of goalkeepers and I’m really looking forward to all pushing each other to ensure that we maintain the highest standards, which this club demands.

“This is a really special opportunity; everyone can see what an exciting time it is for the club and I cannot wait to play my part in supporting my team-mates and helping to drive the group forwards.”

Darlow to support Lammens at United

Lammens is the undisputed number one at United despite a miserable World Cup in which he came on to replace Thibaut Courtois in the quarter-final clash with Spain only to make a terrible error which led to his country being eliminated.

Andre Onana has rejoined Trabzonspor on another season-long loan while Altay Bayindir is pushing to leave to play more first-team football.

United’s director of football Jason Wilcox said: “Karl has proven his ability to perform at the highest level, his work ethic and determined personality make him a really strong addition to our squad.

“We are delighted to add a player of his quality and experience to our excellent goalkeeping group.”

United active in transfer market with Santos in and Tielemans close

Darlow joins Andrey Santos in moving to Old Trafford. The Brazil international joined United on Monday from Chelsea in a deal worth a reported £50million.

Michael Carrick is hoping to pair Santos with Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans with the Belgium international in talks over a move to United.
