Mauricio Pochettino has given a deadline for the next chapter of his managerial career.
Pochettino will make a decision next week over whether or not he will stay with the U.S. Men’s National Team. The 54-year-old’s contract as USMNT head coach expired at the end of the team’s FIFA World Cup involvement, but a reported four-year extension was offered to Pochettino earlier in the summer.
“We are evaluating it, looking at it,” Pochettino said in an interview with Spanish radio Cadena Cope on Thursday. “They [U.S. Soccer] have made me an offer to continue, and we will see. Next week we will [make] a decision.”
Pochettino took over as USMNT head coach in September 2024 and has led the program in 31 matches, winning 17 of them. He coached the Americans in the 2025 CONCACAF Nations League Final Four, 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and the most recent 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The USMNT topped their group at the World Cup, defeating Paraguay and Australia before losing to Turkey in their rubber match. Pochettino watched as the Americans defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 in the Round of 32 before falling 4-1 to Belgium in the Round of 16.
Pochettino has previously been linked with a move back to Europe with Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Tottenham expressing interest before filling their respective managerial roles.
Should Pochettino return to the USMNT, he would be back on the sidelines this fall as friendly windows take place in September and October. The USMNT’s next competitive pair of matches will come this November during the Nations League quarterfinals.
