Mo Salah calls Szoboszlai ‘one of the best in the world’

Mo Salah believes that Liverpool teammate Dominik Szoboszlai is performing like “one of the best players in the world” this season.

The Hungary international played a key role in the Reds’ 3-0 win over Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday night, doubling his side’s lead with a sensational goal following Curtis Jones’ opener.

Salah provided the assist for Szoboszlai before winning and converting a penalty, just the third time he has completed all three actions in a single game for Liverpool.

The Egyptian winger put in a terrific performance and received a standing ovation from the Anfield when he was subbed off, but he gave all the plaudits to the versatile midfielder, who he believes holds the key to a cup run this year.

“There was pressure for sure on the penalty,” Salah told TNT Sports. “It’s a very important win for us. It gives us confidence for the upcoming games.

“I think a cup run depends on his [Szoboszlai’s] performances. We rely on him so much. This season he is one of the best players in the world.

“It is great to win trophies. Hopefully we can go on.”

Szoboszlai has earned comparisons with Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard, but the attacker is focused only on being the best version of himself on the pitch.

“I just want to keep going and score as many as I can,” he said.

“I’m not playing a Steven Gerrard season. Although he was a legend at the club, I’m trying to write my own story. I try to do my best every game. Hopefully we can go on until the end.”
