Newcastle United have joined the race for Juventus striker Jonathan David after his difficult debut season in Turin, with Tutto Juve reporting that the Magpies are making moves to assess the financial details of a potential deal for the 26-year-old Canadian, who is valued at €35m and available for around €25-30m.
David joined Juventus on a free transfer from Lille last summer after 109 goals and 31 assists across five years in France, arriving with enormous expectations and the weight of one of the most prolific records in Ligue 1 history behind him. He scored eight goals and added five assists in 46 appearances, a contribution the Italian press have not been kind about.
Tutto Juve label him a “flop of the season” and note he has scored just once since February 1, a run of form that has opened the door to exit discussions with Juventus prepared to listen to adequate offers.
Jonathan David Newcastle United interest
The report acknowledges the “surprise bid” framing in its headline is not backed by concrete figures or confirmed activity, noting that an offer could be on the way rather than confirming one has already been submitted. The overall message is one of genuine intent rather than imminent action, with Newcastle in the early stages of assessing whether a deal is workable at a price below Juventus’s valuation.
The competition Newcastle face for Jonathan David this summer
David’s contract runs until 2030, which gives Juventus full leverage and no urgency to sell below their valuation. The combination of that contractual security and at least three credible Premier League suitors gives the Italian club every reason to hold firm and wait for competition to push the price upward. Newcastle’s ability to move quickly and decisively, before Villa make a formal bid, will determine whether their interest translates into something concrete or fades as the summer intensifies.
