Nuno ‘very proud’ to be confirmed as new West Ham manager

Nuno Espirito Santo says he is “very pleased” and “very proud” to have been named West Ham United’s new manager.

The Portuguese tactician signed a three-year contract to become the club’s head coach just hours after Graham Potter was sacked from the role on Saturday morning.

Potter had overseen just six wins in 25 games since replacing Julen Lopetegui in January. The Hammers currently sit 19th in the table after winning only one of their opening five Premier League games this season.

Nuno took his first training session with the West Ham squad on Saturday morning, with his first game in charge coming against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium this coming Monday.

Nuno Espirito Santo ‘very proud’ as new West Ham manager confirmed

“I am very pleased to be here and very proud to be representing West Ham United,” the former Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur boss said.

“My objective is to work hard to get the very best from the team and ensure that we are as competitive as we possibly can be. The work has already started and I am looking forward to the challenge that is ahead.”

Nuno was only out of work for a matter of works after leaving Nottingham Forest earlier this month, despite signing a new contract in the summer after the the Midlands outfit qualified for the UEFA Europa League.

The 51-year-old’s exit came after he admitted in August that his relationship with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was “not the same” and “not so good as it was” last season.
