Patrick Agyemang is facing a race against time to be fit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering an injury during Derby County’s Championship clash with Stoke City.
The 25-year-old striker, who is of Ghanaian descent, was stretchered off in the first half after going down with a non-contact injury, raising immediate concerns over the seriousness of the problem. Agyemang appeared visibly distressed as he left the pitch, with fears growing that his season could be over.
The injury is a major setback for the forward, who has been in strong form since joining Derby from Charlotte FC last summer. His performances had placed him firmly in contention for a place in the United States squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Agyemang’s Ghanaian roots have also drawn attention back home, with his progress closely followed despite his international allegiance to the United States.
He had also attracted transfer interest from Leeds United and Crystal Palace, but the injury could now affect any potential summer move as he focuses on recovery ahead of the World Cup.
