Sandro Tonali’s interest in a return to Serie A could be blocked due to the midfielder’s salary demands.
Tonali is considering his future at Newcastle United amid a disappointing domestic campaign, with the Magpies 10th in the table and facing an uphill battle to secure Champions League qualification.
The Italy international is understood to favour a return to Serie A, with Juventus reportedly keen.
However, The Athletic are reporting that the financial package of a deal, including Tonali’s wage demands, could prove problematic for Italian suitors. Newcastle value the midfielder at more than £80m, a fee that appears out of reach for Serie A sides.
The situation has boosted the hopes of Premier League teams. Arsenal have expressed interest in the 25-year-old, while both Manchester United and Manchester City are monitoring developments.
Pep Guardiola recently labelled Tonali a ‘top, top player’ and there is expected to be significant Premier League interest in his services.
Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan for a fee of around €70m in 2023. He has made 95 appearances for the club in all competitions and is contracted at St James’ Park until 2030.
