The 2026 GFA Elite U15 Boys Championship concluded on an exciting note on Wednesday as the Regional Select Side and Elite Academy Select Side played out a 2-2 draw in a ceremonial exhibition match at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The fixture featured some of the best young talents identified during the week-long tournament, with players selected from the participating regional teams and elite academies.
The Elite Academy Select Side made a strong start and took the lead within the opening eight minutes after a well-worked attacking move.
However, the Regional Select Side responded positively and found an equaliser before halftime to ensure the teams went into the break level.
Both sides continued to create chances after the restart in an entertaining contest, with coaches making several substitutions to allow players to showcase their abilities.
The Regional Select Side took the lead in the 34th minute and looked set to finish the championship on a winning note.
But the Elite Academy Select Side earned a late penalty with just a minute remaining and converted from the spot to make it 2-2.
As the match was staged as an exhibition game to mark the end of the championship, no penalty shootout was held.
The Elite Academy Select Side was coached by FIFA Head of Scouting Stuart Yaw McLaren, while the Regional Select Side was led by Ghana Football Association Head of Scouting Papa Nii.
The match provided a fitting conclusion to the championship, showcasing the quality of young talent emerging across the country and highlighting the success of FIFA’s Talent Development Scheme in supporting youth football development in Ghana.
