Report, result and goals as Gunners collapse at home

Arsenal’s Premier League title charge suffered a significant setback as Bournemouth claimed a 2-1 win over the Gunners at the Emirate.

Despite finding a first-half equaliser, the hosts were second best for long periods and ultimately undone by a disciplined and clinical Bournemouth performance.

First-half setback and response

Arsenal were backed by a vocal home crowd aware of the stakes in the title race, however, it was Bournemouth who settled quicker, showing more composure in possession and a clear intent to exploit space behind Arsenal’s defensive line.

The breakthrough arrived in the 17th minute through Eli Junior Kroupi. After clever build-up play down the left, a deflected cross fell kindly to the teenager, who reacted sharply to volley home from close range.

Arsenal struggled to establish rhythm but were handed a route back into the contest in the 34th minute. A handball by Ryan Christie inside the penalty area allowed Viktor Gyokeres to step up and convert from the spot.

Despite the equaliser, Arsenal failed to build much more sustained pressure. Bournemouth remained organised, pressing effectively and limiting space for the hosts.

The half ended 1-1, but the balance of play suggested the visitors were more comfortable in their approach.

Bournemouth regain control

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Bournemouth continuing to dictate tempo and Arsenal struggling to progress through midfield.

The decisive moment came in the 74th minute. Evanilson did well to retain possession under pressure before slipping a pass through to Alex Scott.

The midfielder showed composure to finish low past David Raya, restoring Bournemouth’s lead and silencing the home crowd.

Late pressure falls short

Arsenal pushed forward in the final stages, committing more players into advanced positions, including deploying defenders in attacking roles.

However, Bournemouth’s defensive line held firm, with goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic producing several key saves, notably tipping a late header from Gabriel Jesus over the crossbar.

Two late opportunities fell to Gyokeres, who had been Arsenal’s most threatening outlet. A deflected header went unrewarded after a contentious goal-kick decision, and a subsequent effort drifted wide under pressure.

Even a late corner involving Raya joining the attack failed to yield an equaliser, with an offside decision halting any final opportunity.

Implications for the title race

This defeat raises fresh questions about Arsenal’s consistency at a critical stage of the season. Having now conceded multiple goals in several recent matches. Their inability to control matches, particularly against well-organised opponents, could prove costly in the title run-in.

For Bournemouth, the result continues an impressive run against top opposition and strengthens their push towards European qualification.
