Richards, Turner and Crystal Palace earn historic FA Cup win

Two U.S. men’s national team players lifted England’s oldest trophy on Saturday.

Chris Richards and Matt Turner both celebrated as Crystal Palace defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the 2024-25 FA Cup Final. Richards started and played 90 minutes in the match at Wembley Stadium, helping the Eagles lift their first trophy in club history.

Eberechi Eze’s 16th minute opener was the lone goal of the match as the England international finished off Daniel Munoz’s cross.

Omar Marmoush had a golden chance to tie the match in the 36th minute but saw his penalty kick effort saved by Dean Henderson.

Henderson would earn Man of the Match honors, making six saves on the day.

Richards won five duels, made 12 clearances, and two defensive recoveries as Oliver Glasner’s men pulled a famous FA Cup shock.

The result not only guarantees Palace’s spot in the 2025-26 UEFA Europa League but also into August’s FA Community Shield.

Richards and Turner become the first American players to win the FA Cup since Carli Lloyd did so with Manchester City.

Crystal Palace will close its Premier League schedule with final matches against Wolves and Liverpool.
