Stars and Canada women’s national team forward Jordyn Huitema exited Chicago’s game against Angel City on Saturday in the first half with an apparent left leg injury.
Huitema initially sat down and requested medical attention after walking gingerly following a collision. The forward came back onto the field after being looked at and went to contest a header, but quickly went down upon landing, appearing to hold her knee. Huitema was carried off the field by two staff members, one under each shoulder, not putting any weight on her left leg. She was officially substituted out in the 28th minute.
At halftime, a cart came onto the field to take Huitema away from the field. She had a bag of ice on her left knee and a towel draped over her head.
“I think Jordyn is actually one of the most interesting attackers in the league in her position. So, of course, [losing her is] hard,” Chicago Stars head coach Martin Sjögren said postgame. “Now we don’t really know yet what the situation is with Jordyn. So we’ll see now what happens these next couple of days and what the doctors and the medical says.
“But of course you always feel with the player because everyone sees what’s happening and you know [Huitema] also gets afraid and she was really sad now, even if we don’t really know yet what the verdict will be. So that also leaves us with, like, a bad feeling about the game. Not only the result, but also that we might have an injury to Jordyn.”
The Canadian striker joined Chicago via trade shortly before the start of the 2026 season. The Stars traded $200,000 in allocation money and a $300,000 transfer fee to Seattle to acquire the goalscorer, then signed Huitema to a three-year contract through the 2028 season. She scored her first goal for the Stars on March 22, 2026, and has four total in 12 games this season.
