Summer is here, which means it’s time for international friendlies! The USWNT released their roster for the June and July friendlies against Ireland and Canada, with the addition of a few first-timers. Let’s take a look at the new faces who are shining for the American squad.
Jordyn Bugg – Seattle Reign FC
Raised in El Cajon, CA, alongside five younger siblings, Bugg continues to assert herself as a top talent. Although not having collegiate experience, Bugg’s role on the US youth national teams helped the teams secure multiple bronze medals. She also played for the San Diego Surf Soccer Club, which won the 2024 ECNL Championship. Bugg is inspired by Naomi Girma and now has the opportunity to expand her knowledge during this summer’s friendlies.
Lilly Reale – NJ/NY Gotham FC
Born in Boston but raised in Hingham, Massachusetts, Reale had an excellent collegiate career as a UCLA Bruin. She started in all of the games she played for the Bruins. Before her tenure at UCLA, she played club soccer for South Shore Select and earned Player of the Year. Some of her idols include Julie Ertz and Kobe Bryant. The spirit of her idols translates well to her playing style as she has proven to be a wall on the backline with tons of potential to fulfill.
Izzy Rodriguez – Kansas City Current
Prior to being drafted by the KC Current in 2021, Rodriguez was showing out for the Michigan Hawks. She became a Buckeye in 2017 and earned Big Ten Defender of the Year in 2020. In 88 appearances for the Buckeyes, she netted eight goals. Rodriguez has been a stellar player for KC and has played a big role in the excellence that the Current have demonstrated over the past few years.
Sam Meza – Seattle Reign FC
Meza started playing soccer at the age of three. After playing for the Solar Soccer Club for the USDA, Meza committed to UNC. “Mighty Mouse” Meza excelled during her time with the Tar Heels and carried that talent to the Seattle Reign. Once she developed a sense of maturity in her game while on loan at Dallas Trinity, Laura Harvey made sure to bring Meza to Reign’s starting lineup.
