The Details Behind the Injury of Chelsea’s Naomi Girma

The United States women’s national soccer team has many talented players who play in different leagues all over the world. One of these gifted players is defender Naomi Girma, who moved to Chelsea in 2025. Fans were excited to see Girma in action, but unfortunately, she was injured in her debut match. Here are the details of her injury.

When Did Naomi Girma Get Injured?

Naomi Girma’s injury came in her debut match with Chelsea when they faced Brighton. The match ended with a 2-2 result, but this wasn’t the only bad news for Chelsea. They also suffered with Girma’s injury as she left the field at the 59th minute and was replaced by Nathalie Björn.

It was apparent that Girma was leaving the pitch with a calf injury. Unfortunately, according to The Equalizer, this wasn’t the first time that the USWNT talent suffered from this kind of damage. Girma didn’t play for Chelsea immediately after she joined them due to different calf injury. This also caused her to miss joining the USWNT during the SheBelieves Cup, which was quite the blow for Emma Hayes’ side, especially considering how much of a role model Girma is regarding her defending skills.

Thankfully for Chelsea fans, Naomi Girma has recently returned to the pitch following her calf injury. She made her second Chelsea appearance when she was brought in the last 10 minutes of Chelsea’s match against Barcelona.

This was the first time Girma played following her injury, which sidelined her for almost seven weeks. Unfortunately for Girma, her first match back didn’t end in the way she might have hoped for. Chelsea ended up losing to Barcelona with a 4-1 result.

The good thing, however, is that this match will be the start of Girma’s gradual return to the pitch. Hopefully, she won’t suffer any more calf injuries anytime soon and ofcourse Chelsea fans will be waiting patiently to see more of Girma in upcoming matches.
