Premier League clubs embarked on a spending spree like no other in this summer’s transfer window, setting a new record for the second year in a row.
According to figures provided by Valuball, over £3.7 billion was spent on new signings, with more than half a billion of that number coming on Deadline Day alone.
14 out of 20 top-flight clubs spent at least £100 million, with Manchester City topping the table at £472 million. They broke the £100 million barrier twice, buying Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116 million and Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for £125 million.
But City are only sixth in the net spend table after selling the likes of Rodri, Savio, Tijjani Reijnders, Nico Gonzalez and James Trafford for big fees.
Liverpool lead the way in net spend after the blockbuster arrival of Bradley Barcola from PSG took their total spend up to £250 million, with only £32 million recouped in player sales.
The promoted trio of Coventry City, Hull City and Ipswich Town all made the top five as they look to avoid the drop back to the Championship. Hull spent £178 million on 18 new signings and sold six for just £17 million.
Chelsea were the second-highest spenders in the Premier League, bringing in 11 new players for £351 million, yet the Blues finished bottom of the net spend table thanks to £451 million in player sales, meaning they came out with a £100 million in profit.
