As college soccer rolls onward, many teams have proven to be top contenders. Across the nation, there are various regions with immense collegiate talent. We all know the powerhouses of college women’s soccer, but here let’s dive into some of the most exciting NCAA women’s soccer teams in each region.
Midwest
University of Kansas
With a 7-0-2 record, Kansas is making waves for another super season. Last season was remarkable as the Jayhawks won the Big 12 title. Can they repeat? They’ll need lots of help from Carolina Castans and Jordan Rowan. Castans is a solid defender in her junior year, while Rowan is a freshman seeking to lead the team in scoring.
University of Arkansas
Fresh off an incredible 2024 season, the Razorbacks continue to have a hot streak in their game. Since Colby Hale’s hiring as the head coach in 2012, the program has seen impressive results. In 2022, Arkansas made its first, and only so far, Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Along with that, the Razorbacks have won the SEC regular season title in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2024. It’ll be exciting to see what Arkansas can accomplish this season.
West
California State University, Fullerton
The Titans are on fire and are off to their best start in program history. Going undefeated in non-conference play at the beginning of the season is very impressive. While all members of the squad are valuable, senior Isabella Cruz has been superb so far with 4 goals and 3 assists already recorded early this season. Will we see the Titans sustain the stellar play?
Santa Clara University
Although recording two losses in non-conference play, the Broncos are still a strong program and aim to repeat as back-to-back WCC champions. With head coach Jerry Smith and his coaching staff returning, expectations remain high for the notable program. One key player is midfielder Kennedy Schoennauer, who was named to the preseason All-WCC team. The squad typically makes a run in the NCAA tournament, so it is going to be an exciting ride to witness.
Southeast
Florida State University
The Seminoles have proven to be a force to be reckoned with. Florida State is a program that is filled with rich history. With strong play style from players like Wrianna Hudson and Heather Gilchrist, the offensive activity is set to be thrilling to watch. Peyton Nourse is also on the roster and back from injury, looking to make a significant impact. Will the Seminoles lift the trophy as they’ve done various times in the past?
South region
Texas A&M University
Sticking with strong and consistent programs, the Aggies are no strangers to successful seasons. There are several players on Texas A&M who are projected to contribute to the program’s success this season. From freshman Holly Storer, who has had an impressive start to the season, to returning goalkeeper Abree Fry, who has experience and knowledge as an Aggie, players representing Texas A&M are skilled and ready to prove themselves.
University of Tennessee
The Lady Vols are off to a stellar start to the 2025 season. With the talent of Shea O’Rourke, Anaiyah Robinson, and plenty of other players on the squad, the orange wave is strong and forceful. There’s no doubt that head coach Joe Kirt has set the Lady Vols up for success throughout his time thus far. Will they hit a level the program has never seen before? The thrills have only just begun, and there’s so much to look forward to for the Lady Vols.
Texas Christian University (TCU)
While ranked #10 in the nation, TCU has won the last 14 Big 12 games. Seven Castain and Kamdyn Fuller have fueled the Horn Frogs with incredible goal scoring and playmaking. Castain even recorded a hat trick in TCU’s most recent victory versus Kansas. Can the Horn Frogs continue pushing in the right direction? We’ll have to keep up to find out!
East
Virginia
Virginia has always been a contender in the NCAA tournament, and they have a history of producing some top talent. They’ve made it to number one in the NCAA D1 soccer rankings, and with only one loss this season, they’re looking to replicate that success.
