Top 10 Goals in Women’s Soccer: July 2025

July, going into August, was an insane month for women’s football. The African Cup of Nations, Copa America, and Euro all declared champions, while the NWSL made its return in the first week of August. This month of goals is some of the best yet; we’ve got long-distance screamers, great team goals, and last-second winners for you. Let’s go back and enjoy the top 10 goals in women’s soccer from July.

10. Aitana Bonmati – Spain

Spain was in desperate need of a goal if they wanted to avoid penalties in the Euro semifinals against Germany. The best player in the world stepped up in the most significant way possible for her team. Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger was having an incredible tournament up until this goal, and it’s Bonmati who ended her tournament in the worst way. Berger looked at Bonmati’s positioning on the wing and expected the cross to come into the box, the Germany keeper almost dared Bonmati to try to beat her from the insane angle. Based on the moment, the audacity to try it and score speaks to the brilliance of Bonmati. In a game that was headed for penalties, Bonmati took the game into her own hands and won it for Spain. It’s a moment that AKB will have a hard time forgetting about.

9. Alexia Putellas – Spain

This is the type of goal that couldn’t represent what Spain does any better. Quick, one-touch passing within tight spaces and defenders draped all over them, while eventually unlocking the defense and scoring, is what they do best. Patri got the move started with the pass into Vicki Lopez, who calmly laid it off to Alexia Putellas. If any defender lets Putellas get more than one touch on the ball, it’s over. Putellas got her toe on the ball to control it before poking it into the far corner with ease. Spain makes football look effortless at times, and this is one of those times.

8. Alexia Putellas – Spain

Portugal didn’t stand a chance against Spain, especially when their playmakers are given this much space in the midfield. Mariona Caldentey picked out an inch-perfect pass to Alexia Putellas on the wing from near midfield. That type of pass needs to be appreciated for its beauty. The ball allowed for Putellas to take the ball in stride and not lose the step she had on the defender. Then Putellas kept her composure, let the over-aggressive defender slide past her, and then slide the ball home. A lovely goal again from some of Spain’s best.

7. Cristiana Girelli – Italy

Cristiana Girelli and Sofia Cantore combined for their best work against Norway, with Cantore setting up Girelli to score twice. This goal would be the dramatic game-winner for the Italians, sending them to their first Euro semifinal in 28 years. The ball from Cantore is sublime, the pace and flight of the ball cleared the entire Norwegian defense, and of course, it’s Girelli waiting on the back post. The striker got some help from the crossbar, but Italy deserved to win the game because they didn’t play it safe. This is a big moment for women’s football in Italy.

6. Ghizlane Chebbak – Morocco

Morocco has to be disappointed with their loss in the final against Nigeria, but thanks to Ghizlane Chebbak, they will still have some moments to remember. Chebbak did well to react the quickest as the ball rolled into her path, she was decisive in her action, she knew immediately to go for goal. The one touch to roll it in front of her was all she needed before cleanly striking the ball into the far corner. It’s a great goal in the heat of the moment, and it almost was enough for Morocco to be champions, until it wasn’t.

5. Trinity Rodman – Washington Spirit

This goal might’ve happened in the first week of August, but it was too big a moment to leave off this list. Trinity Rodman, who had spent months on the shelf trying to get back to fitness after a serious back injury, had a special moment. The Spirit and Thorns were deadlocked until Rodman came on in stoppage time. As soon as the cross came in and the ball fell to her, the superstar made no mistake about it. Rodman smashed the ball into the top corner, but the best part was seeing her show her emotions after the game. Rodman came back with a bang, and it’s a big moment in NWSL history.

4. Jule Brand – Germany

When Germany took on Poland in their first group stage game, Poland defended as well as they could for most of the first half. Everything was going according to plan for the Polish until Jule Brand put an end to all of it with this incredible strike. The grace, the balance, and the technique are special from Brand on this goal. For her to be running at close to full speed before ripping the shot into the top corner with a defender almost blocking it makes it a special goal. Jule Brand isn’t appreciated enough among the world’s best; she’s got skill in spades.

3. Marta – Brazil

The GOAT, aka Marta, is showing that she still has so much more to give the game. Just when you think she can’t keep this up, she finds another gear and does something special when her team needs her. This was the last kick of the game; Colombia had come as close as they could to winning the game. The Colombians played well enough to win the game, but Marta stepped up and said, “not today.” The ball wasn’t cleared well enough, and it fell right to her. Marta put her foot through the ball and the rest is history, what a strike in that moment. Marta is beyond clutch for this and is doing it at age 39. Don’t ever doubt the GOAT again. She’s going to play in the next World Cup.

2. Cristiana Girelli – Italy

This was named the Goal of the Tournament for the Euro; the honor goes to Cristiana Girelli. Girelli has always been a phenomenal player in the air, but every once in a while, she’ll show that she can do things like this with her feet as well. One touch to cut inside and the second to bend the ball into the top corner, it’s a beautiful goal and incredibly easy on the eye, you could watch this over and over again.

1. Leicy Santos – Colombia

Leicy Santos refused to let Colombia lose in extra time after Marta took over the game. With the score 4-3, Colombia were on the verge of elimination before penalties. Leicy Santos was able to tie the game and save her team with this incredible free kick. By positioning the second player next to Santos, the goalkeeper had to be aware that the other player could’ve taken this shot instead of Santos. Notice how the keeper is wrong-footed and even takes a step in the opposite direction when the shot comes in. That extra step is all it took, but Santos still had to do the rest. The chipped free kick is truly incredible; it almost fell into the net in slow motion, adding to the drama. Colombia would go on to lose in penalties, but their effort was on a championship level.
