Top 10 Goals: NWSL and USWNT October 2025

October was a big month for soccer in the States, with an important international break and the tail end of the NWSL season. With playoff spots on the line, this is when everyone brings out their best. There are some bangers on this week’s list. Let’s take a look at the Top 10 Goals from October.

10. Olivia Moultrie – Portland Thorns

Olivia Moultrie has been on fire to end the season for Portland. Her rise is likely what allowed the Thorns to part ways with Hina Sugita. The teenage sensation is scoring from inside the box, outside the box, and even on set pieces. Take a look at this free kick and how well Moultrie bends the ball around the wall. Now, the keeper should have moved the wall a few inches to the left, but either way, the angle was ridiculous, and Moultrie found the back of the net anyway. The Thorns are getting the best out of her at just the right time.

9. Trinity Rodman – Washington Spirit

Before Trinity Rodman’s most recent injury, she was back with a vengeance, showing how badly she wanted to return. Moments like this highlight why she is such a problem down the flank. Whether it’s with the ball or without, her speed barely drops, which makes it very tough for defenders to know where she’s going with the ball. Rodman just needed one touch after beating the defender to then curl the ball into the top corner beautifully. Hopefully, Rodman is back soon for the Spirit. We definitely need to see her in the NWSL postseason.

8. Emma Sears – USA

The USWNT looked great as expected against New Zealand. What’s special about this goal is the ridiculous backheel from Lily Yohannes to set up this goal. Very few players have the creativity to come up with this, let alone execute it in a game. Most players would try just to keep the ball in play. Yohannes’ backheel created the space for Michelle Cooper to get in behind and play a great ball to Emma Sears, who finished easily. If this is a preview of what the next gen of the USWNT can do, then we’re all here for it.

7. Paige Monaghan – Utah Royals

Paige Monaghan has become a leader for the Utah Royals, a reliable player up front who can pass and score. Monaghan also showed Maddie Dahlien just how ruthless this league can be. Monaghan picked Dahlien’s pocket and was off to the races. Then Monaghan juked Dahlien by cutting inside onto her weaker foot and curled the ball into the top corner. Monaghan is quick and efficient in front of the goal when she needs to be, and this was another instance of that.

6. Maiara Niehues – Angel City

Maiara Niehues was an under-the-radar signing for Angel City, and she gave the team some much-needed scoring down the stretch. However, this is more a result of the sublime assistance she received from Jun Endo. Endo’s backheel assist is utterly absurd. Most backheels are down with the ball rolling along the grass. This backheel came off a long ball, and Endo didn’t even take a touch to control the ball. This is one of the best first touches you will see in the sport. Endo has eyes in the back of her head; she knows Niehues is behind her and that her defender is going to try to guard her, so she lays it off in the best way possible. That touch is what set Niehues on her way to score the goal. The soccer IQ and the ability to execute make Endo so memorable. The league is much better when she’s back healthy and playing.

5. Dudinha – San Diego Wave

Dudinha has proven to be an excellent signing for Gotham FC with multiple goals to end the season. This solo effort shows just how determined Dudinha can be when she sets her mind to it. Three different Chicago defenders had a chance to take Dudinha off the ball, but her strength and balance were just too much. After fighting through all the contact, the Brazilian found a sliver of daylight to get the shot off and eventually find the bottom corner. Most players who pick up the ball where she did usually get trapped and give it away; Dudinha made some magic instead.

4. Sam Coffey – USA

The United States needed to respond to Portugal after losing the first of two friendlies. Team USA certainly did that with a 3-1 win, finished off by Sam Coffey. This was a well-worked goal off the training ground because of the timing of Coffey’s run and strike. Coffey ran onto the ball that bounced up and came at her, making a tough redirect onto goal. Yet, Coffey timed it perfectly; her touch was perfect as the ball found the corner of the net. Sam Coffey still doesn’t get enough respect; she’s one of the best midfielders in the world.

3. Rose Lavelle – USA

Women’s soccer is so much better when Rose Lavelle is healthy and playing at her best. For both club and country, she’s been phenomenal these past few months. Scoring a goal like this shows the kind of form that she is in. Lavelle’s instinct and reflexes were better than everyone else on this play. The ball bounced up to her, and most would try to take it down and control it. Lavelle saw an opening for a shot to catch everyone off guard. The keeper had already taken a step to her right by the time the ball came to Lavelle, and that was the opening she needed to put the ball into the corner of the net. Her instincts, vision, and technique are simply perfect. Let’s hope we get to see more of it in the NWSL playoffs.

2. Marta – Orlando Pride

The GOAT has already solidified her reputation, and yet she refuses to stop playing the game at the highest level. Don’t ever question her ability to play this game based on her age; she’ll say when she’s done. In a midweek game of the CONCACAF Cup against Pachuca, Marta let this free kick rip from at least 22-23 yards. The ball hit off the top of the right post and in, giving the keeper absolutely no chance at all to save it. We just need to sit back and continue to appreciate and enjoy Marta for as long as we can.

This goal is beyond cheeky from Sofia Cantore. There have already been a few backheel assists on this list, but this is the only backheel goal from an insane angle. Honestly, this backheel has me questioning reality. How in the world did she squeeze this ball past the keeper? There’s barely any room on the near post, and yet, she caught everyone off guard with her attempt. The defender and the goalkeeper assume the ball is going to come across the box, but by the time they see the ball, it’s already in the net because of Cantore’s flick. Again, her ability to think one step ahead and the technique to try it are what make Cantore a special player. She’s going to play a massive role for the Spirit in the playoffs, especially if Trinity Rodman isn’t back for the quarterfinals.
