Tottenham must sell Solanke to Newcastle after injury blow

Dominic Solanke may be moved on by Tottenham Hotspur after suffering yet another injury ahead of the summer transfer window. Igor Tudor has confirmed that the 28-year-old has a small problem and will be assessed before the game against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

It is another frustrating setback for the former Bournemouth striker, who missed most of the 2025-26 campaign, leading to him starting just seven Premier League games this term.

Tottenham’s transfer plans likely depend largely on the club’s league status, but even so, Solanke is already being linked with a move across the Premier League to Newcastle United.

The Magpies are currently facing issues with both Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, explaining their potential move for the centre-forward. According to a recent report by Football Insider, Newcastle want to sign Solanke and this opens up an opportunity for Tottenham to recoup their significant investment in the former Liverpool striker.

With Spurs just one point above the relegation zone, the last thing that Tudor needed was another big-name injury, having already been without James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski.

Richarlison is more than capable of leading the line himself, but given his own injury problems over several seasons in North London, the manager cannot afford to overplay him.

It remains to be seen how serious Solanke’s injury might be at this stage. With upcoming games against Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Leeds United, he needs to be available as soon as possible.

However, the recurring nature of Solanke’s fitness issues will raise serious questions about his starting role at Hotspur Way given that he has proven that he cannot stay fit long enough to establish any sense of rhythm or form. Given that he has made seven Premier League starts this season, it shows how much of a disastrous return he is giving on the £65 million investment that the Lilywhites made to bring him from Bournemouth.

Saying that, whatever the outcome, for £65 million, he is not the striker that Spurs need. Given that he is far too injury-prone, and while he cannot really be blamed for that, it is something that the North London outlet can seriously do without.

There are likely multiple options available in the summer for a similar fee, who would jump at the chance of helping the Lilywhites and Newcastle’s interest gives Tottenham with a potential solution to their Solanke problem.

The Magpies need striking reinforcements and possess the financial resources to meet Spurs’ asking price.

If they can get a similar fee to what they paid for him, and if Newcastle United are ready to pay for it, then this one will look like a no-brainer move once the summer transfer window swings open.
