After shipping 11 goals across their last three defeats, Tottenham’s backline has come under intense scrutiny. According to Caught Offside, the North London club are preparing a £52 million bid for Brazilian defender Bremer when the transfer window reopens.
The 27-year-old has impressively recovered from last October’s ACL injury, though recent fitness setbacks might make Juventus more receptive to offers—provided their valuation is met.
Why Bremer Doesn’t Solve Tottenham’s Problems
Here’s the issue: Spurs already boast considerable defensive depth. With Cristian Romero, summer signing Kevin Danso, Micky van de Ven, and Radu Dragusin nearing full fitness, another centre-back feels redundant.
The real problems lie elsewhere. Tottenham’s attacking output has been woefully inconsistent, with creativity in short supply. A dynamic left winger to challenge Xavi Simons would provide genuine competition, whilst a clinical striker remains desperately needed.
James Maddison’s recurring injury troubles highlight another gap—an attacking midfielder capable of driving play forward. Additionally, Pedro Porro lacks proper competition at right-back, leaving the squad dangerously thin in that position.
The Verdict on Tottenham’s Transfer Strategy
Investing £52 million in Bremer represents questionable business when considering Tottenham’s actual needs. That substantial fee could transform their attack or provide much-needed squad depth across multiple positions.
Whilst Bremer undoubtedly possesses quality, Spurs must prioritise areas crying out for immediate reinforcement. The attacking third demands urgent attention, and diverting precious resources toward an already well-stocked defence seems strategically misguided.
