Virgil van Dijk has warned the absence of Champions League football will have a big ‘impact’ on Liverpool this summer.
Liverpool lost at Wolves on Tuesday night to continue a challenging campaign for the Premier League champions. The late defeat at Molineux leaves the Reds fifth in the table, in a competitive battle for Champions League football.
Liverpool are at risk of missing out on Europe’s elite, an absence that would be estimated to cost the club around £120m in revenue.
After a record-breaking spend last summer, Van Dijk has admitted the loss of Champions League revenue would ‘100%’ impact the club’s plans in the summer transfer window.
Speaking after the loss at Wolves, the Liverpool captain admitted ‘the stakes are very high’ across the run-in.
“It will have impact on the summer (transfer) window, 100%,” he said.
“The stakes are very high. Listen, if you play for Liverpool, it’s always been like that. We need to get into the Champions League.
