Referees Manager of the Ghana Football Association, Alex Kotey, has touted the Video Assistant Referee as a key tool to help restore integrity to the Ghana Premier League.
Controversial refereeing decisions continue to dominate discussions each week, with GFA President Kurt Okraku also admitting he is dissatisfied with some calls in the domestic league.
Speaking to the Ghana FA Media, Kotey expressed belief that the introduction of VAR is the solution.
“The VAR watches every incident of the game. By doing that, credibility in our game would be very, very high. And when there’s credibility, it means there’ll be more money, because corporate bodies will now want to come and invest, because they see some credibility now, you understand?
“The VAR is quite expensive, but we want to look at the bigger picture, you know, as to what it brings to our league. If we are able to do that, and even in a week we use it in two games, there’s VAR, you understand? And a [wrong] decision is made by a referee, and then the VAR intervenes and the decision is overturned. It will help all of us, you know, and media criticism will also be reduced.”
