‘We want to win every game’ – Nottingham Forest will look to impose on Manchester City says Davies

Nottingham Forest head coach Carly Davies says that her side will look to impose themselves upon opponents Manchester City when the two clubs meet in the Subway Women’s League Cup at The City Ground on Saturday afternoon.

The Tricky Trees go into their final group stage fixture with an outside chance of securing qualification for the quarter-finals. A landmark victory over Manchester City would see them achieve that feat.

When speaking to WSL Full-Time, Nottingham Forest boss Davies said that her side go into the game with the belief that they can win and that they will be looking to impose themselves on the opposition.

“You have to go into every game trying to impose yourself on the opposition,” Davies said. “It’s my job to make sure that we don’t get too bogged down in all of their rotations and the quality of Man City. We’ve got to make sure that our players go out there and feel confident to impose themselves, their own style and individuality. We also need to be respectful. They’re one of the best teams on current form in the WSL.

“We will set the team up to try and be defensively disciplined and hard to beat but we are also a team that likes to enjoy the ball. The message to the players will be to enjoy it, play with a level of freedom, try and express yourself and also, try and get something out of the game.

“We never enter any game wanting to lose, we want to win every game. You seen that against Everton, so we are looking to do the same against Man City.”

Forward Aimee Claypole netted in both of Nottingham Forest’s previous group games against Newcastle United and Everton. Davies has been impressed with the player’s all-round work ethic since she arrived at the club in the summer.

She said “Aimee’s played in a couple of different systems. She’s a player that wants as much information as possible; she loves knowledge, she wants to learn and wants to develop. She’s an absolute dream to work with in that respect; if you ask Aimee to do something, she will do it 100-percent of whatever she can give and that’s wonderful for me as a coach.

“It was great for her to score against Everton. To stand up and take the penalty under that type of pressure shows an age beyond her years.

“We are really pleased to have her here, she’s definitely one for the future. Hopefully, she can have an input this weekend as well.”

Nottingham Forest will be backed by a good crowd and Davies believes that the supporters can make a real difference.

She said “Fans can be the difference with momentum in games. When the fans get behind you and lift it, that can be the difference for players; it can give you that extra 10 or 15-percent, that bit more that you need.

“When you’re playing against a team that are as good as Man City are on the ball, we are going to have to be really hard to beat off the ball. Everyone wants to see us with the ball and scoring goals but actually, it’s going to be really important to have the fans behind us in the moments that we don’t have the ball as well.

“Get behind us, support the girls and bring your best singing voices. It’s one of the most special moments when you hear the fans singing at The City Ground. They’re going to be hugely important and influential in this game.”
