Nineteen-year-old Real Salt Lake winger Zavier Gozo is on the brink of a $15 million transfer to Crystal Palace, according to reports from Tom Bogert of The Athletic and Ryan Tolmich of Goal.com, in a move that would take one of MLS’s most exciting young talents to a Premier League club preparing for a second consecutive season of European football.
Palace, now led by new head coach Pierre Sage, qualified for the 2025/26 Europa League after winning the UEFA Conference League title the previous season, and are building a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts. Gozo would join fellow American Chris Richards, already established at Selhurst Park, in what would represent a significant step up in level for a player who was still playing MLS Next Pro football just three years ago.

Gozo has scored six goals and provided four assists through the team’s first 15 league games, a run of form significant enough to prompt a very late push for his inclusion in the USMNT’s 2026 World Cup squad, despite the player never having previously appeared in a senior national team camp. He has represented the United States at every youth level from U-15 through to U-23, including a run to the final of the 2024 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, where the US lost to Mexico in extra time, and a quarter-final appearance at the U-20 World Cup before a 3-1 defeat to eventual winners Morocco.

Across 16 appearances in the 2026 MLS season, Gozo ranks ninth in the league for successful dribbles and third for carries that end in a shot, a notable achievement given the presence of fellow USMNT international Diego Luna also demanding significant volume in the Real Salt Lake attack. His shot volume is considerable too, ranking 14th in the league with 53 total shots.
The areas for development are clear from the data. Gozo has only half as many shot assists as his shot total would suggest, placing him outside the league’s top 30 in that category, and his 30 attempted crosses put him at less than half the volume of the league leader. He is, in short, a player who excels at creating danger for himself in the final third but still needs to develop his ability to create chances for teammates. His rise has not gone unnoticed regardless: he was named to the 2026 MLS All-Star Game, becoming just the second teenager selected to any of the last five All-Star Games.
Why are Crystal Palace signing Zavier Gozo?
A crowded right flank and an empty left
On the left, Palace have shockingly little to work with. Johnson occasionally flipped over last season, but it was largely Yeremy Pino who filled the role. Evan Guessand and Christantus Uche, both on loan at the club last season, have since departed. Whether Palace attempt to integrate Gozo directly into the first team, use him primarily on the left despite it not being his natural side, or send him out on loan elsewhere in Europe to gain experience before a future integration remains to be seen. This is a significant step up for the teenager regardless of the specific role he ends up playing.

Gozo is widely expected to be called into USMNT camp for the upcoming September and October international windows. With Mauricio Pochettino now in charge and the federation looking towards the 2030 World Cup cycle, there is expected to be a deliberate push to blood younger players and build squad depth over the coming months.
