Asante Kotoko coach Abdul Karim Zito has insisted that winning the Toyota Cup has significantly boosted the club’s stature.
The Porcupine Warriors secured the trophy over the weekend after edging out South African giants Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 in a tense penalty shootout at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Speaking to the media following the victory, Zito underlined the strategic importance of the triumph.
“We came down here, it’s like just coming to pre-season, so at the end of the day, I felt if we are able to win this cup, it will also add some importance to the club, so seriously we planned towards it that at least we should be able to win,” he said.
Goalkeeper Mohammed Camara emerged as the hero of the match, saving two crucial penalties to help Kotoko clinch their second preseason title.
This followed their earlier success in the President’s Cup, where they defeated archrivals Accra Hearts of Oak.
Asante Kotoko returned to Ghana on Sunday night and are set to regroup ahead of the GHALCA Top 4 tournament scheduled from August 20 to 24 at the Baba Yara Stadium.
These fixtures are part of the club’s comprehensive preseason build-up ahead of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season and their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
