Colombia booked their place in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after edging DR Congo 1-0 in their second Group K match on Wednesday morning.Nstor Lorenzos side produced another dominant display in Guadalajara and finally found the breakthrough in the second half after repeatedly testing the DR Congo defence throughout the contest.Colombia started on the front foot right from the start and nearly took the lead in the second minute when Daniel Munoz pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty area, but his powerful strike flashed narrowly wide of the post.The South Americans thought they had opened the scoring moments later after Munoz found the back of the net, only for the goal to be ruled out following a VAR review for offside.DR Congo goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi-Nzau kept his side in the match with several important saves during the first half as Colombia continued to push forward in search of the opener.Luis Diaz came close shortly after the restart when he reacted quickest to a cross inside the box, but Mpasi-Nzau produced another fine save to deny the Liverpool winger.Colombia eventually broke the deadlock in the 76th minute through Daniel Munoz. Substitute Juan Quintero slipped a pass into the defender, whose shot from inside the area took a deflection before beating the helpless goalkeeper.Luis Diaz later had the ball in the net for a second time, but Colombia once again saw celebrations cut short after the effort was ruled out for offside.DR Congo pushed for a late equaliser and nearly snatched one in stoppage time when Nathanael Mbuku struck from distance, but Camilo Vargas made the save to preserve Colombias advantage.The victory is Colombia’s second at the World Cup 2026 and secures their place in the Round of 32.
