The FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 continues to deliver drama and excitement, with several thrilling encounters taking place across the knockout stage. As more teams secure their places in the Round of 16, football fans can now look forward to blockbuster clashes, including Portugal vs Spain and USA vs Belgium.
Portugal and Belgium Complete Thrilling Comebacks
Portugal and Belgium both booked their places in the Round of 16 after producing memorable comeback victories.
Seleção das Quinas defeated Croatia 2-1 despite trailing midway through the second half. Fortunately for Roberto Martínez’s side, Cristiano Ronaldo converted from the penalty spot before Gonçalo Ramos headed home a dramatic late winner.
Meanwhile, Belgium required extra time to overcome Senegal after falling 2-0 behind. Rudi Garcia’s men mounted a remarkable comeback during the closing stages of normal time, with Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans scoring within five minutes to force extra time.
Tielemans then completed the turnaround by converting a late penalty in extra time, sending the Red Devils into the Round of 16.
Spain and USA Progress Comfortably
Elsewhere, Spain and co-hosts the United States also advanced with impressive victories.
La Furia Roja comfortably defeated Austria 3-0 thanks to a brace from Mikel Oyarzabal, while Pedro Porro added the third goal to complete an excellent team performance.
Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino’s USA defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 despite finishing the match with ten men. Folarin Balogun opened the scoring just before half-time but was later sent off midway through the second half.
Nevertheless, the USMNT remained in control and sealed the victory through Malik Tillman’s superb free-kick. The win sets up an exciting Round of 16 meeting with Belgium.
Meanwhile, Spain’s convincing victory has earned them a blockbuster showdown against Portugal. Both fixtures promise to be among the standout matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16.
