Tottenham Hotspur adapted this transfer strategy of bringing in young players and developing them through the corridors at Hotspur Way. And this policy has been working through the windows for the past couple of years now. This has blessed the North Londoners with more than a few highly regarded players in the roster, from Archie Gray to Lucas Bergvall.
But there is one more player on the Lilywhites books who has been making a name for himself out on loan in German football. And he has been linked with a move away from N17 given his exceptional performances for his temporary employers.
Luka Vuskovic is reportedly reluctant to return to Tottenham Hotspur this summer as uncertainty continues to surround the club’s future.
The 19-year-old centre-back has enjoyed an outstanding season on loan at Hamburger SV and has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe.
With Tottenham currently battling to avoid relegation from the Premier League, the Croatian youngster is reportedly unsure about returning to north London at the end of the campaign.
Luka Vuskovic is not eager to return to Hotspur Way
According to the Daily Mail, Vuskovic is “not keen to return” to Tottenham this summer amid the club’s ongoing struggles.
Spurs signed the defender from HNK Hajduk Split and he remains under contract in north London until 2030, but his immediate future now appears uncertain.
The situation has caught the attention of several European giants.
FC Bayern Munich are believed to be monitoring the defender, while both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have reportedly shown interest in the highly-rated teenager.
Hamburg would also welcome the chance to extend his loan spell after his impressive impact in Germany.
His father opens door to a possible Tottenham exit
Vuskovic’s father has previously hinted that Tottenham could face a decision on the player’s future if a strong offer arrives.
Speaking to Sportske Novosti, he admitted the club’s long-term plan for his son is not completely clear. “I don’t know if Tottenham only see him as a future player or if they would be open to a transfer if they received a suitable offer.”
Those comments have only intensified speculation that Spurs could struggle to keep hold of the young defender if bigger clubs make a move.
Hamburg form is already turning heads
Despite being a centre-back, Vuskovic has also made a major impact in attack during his loan spell.
The Croatian has scored five goals and registered one assist in 22 Bundesliga appearances this season, becoming a fan favourite at the Volksparkstadion.
His latest goal came in a 2–1 victory over VfL Wolfsburg, where he won and converted a penalty.
His physical presence and ability in both boxes have made him one of the standout young defenders in Germany this season.
Tottenham also have a relegation problem
Tottenham supporters had hoped Vuskovic would return next season and become a key part of the club’s future.
However, with the team locked in a relegation battle and major uncertainty surrounding the project in north London, his future could now lie elsewhere.
If Tottenham cannot convince the teenager that the club is moving in the right direction, they may risk losing one of their most promising young talents before he even makes a competitive appearance for the club.
