Assistant head coach Hamza Obeng has been handed the reins of Asante Kotoko on an interim basis for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
The decision follows the resignation of Prince Yaw Owusu, who had been serving as interim head coach after stepping in for Karim Zito.
Zito vacated the role in the wake of Kotoko’s FA Cup defeat to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Yaw Owusu’s spell in charge, however, was plagued by inconsistent results, ultimately leading to his decision to step down.
In a statement, the Kumasi-based club confirmed that the coach had tendered his resignation, indicating that he believed it was in the team’s best interest.
Kotoko have now turned to Obeng, who currently manages the club’s youth side, the Young Porcupines, to steady the ship through the final stretch of the campaign.
“In the interim, Youth Team Coach Hamza Obeng will take charge of the team for the remaining games of the season,” the club announced.
With 29 matches played in the Ghana Premier League, Kotoko sit sixth on the table with 43 points, as they look to finish the season on a strong note under new leadership.
