Ghanaian midfielder Ronald Donkor stole the show as New York Red Bulls shared the spoils with DC United in a thrilling MLS encounter at the Sports Illustrated Stadium.
The 21-year-old scored and provided two more in the 4-4 draw on Wednesday evening. Donkor served fast-rising youngster Julian Hall with the opener after threading a pass to the American forward just 15 minutes into the match.
Six minutes later, Donkor doubled the home side’s advantage after slotting home from a cross from the left.
However, the visitors responded just before half time through Tai Baribo to set up an interesting second half.
After the break, veteran Swedish midfielder and Red Bulls captain Emil Forsberg set up Jorge Ruvalcaba to extend their advantage, but the celebration was cut short after Jackson Hopkins reduced the deficit for the visitors.
Baribo levelled for DC United on the hour mark.
With 18 minutes remaining, Donkor received a pass from Red Bulls’ goalie Ethan Horvath before skillfully beating his marker to find Ruvalcaba, who raced all the way from his half to scored with a sensational curler.
But Baribo netted his third with ten minutes left to complete a hat-trick and deny the hosts of victory.
