Desmond Ofei will lead the Black Stars in Friday’s international friendly against Mexico in Puebla.
An official communiqué from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has explained that the assistant coach is leading the national team into the friendly following head coach Carlos Queiroz’s absence due to personal reasons.
Desmond Ofei has overseen the Black Stars’ preparations since the team arrived in Mexico and will now step into the lead role for the highly anticipated encounter.
“Assistant Coach Desmond Ofei will lead the Black Stars in Friday’s international friendly against Mexico in Puebla, following the absence of Head Coach Carlos Queiroz due to personal reasons.
“Ofei, who has supervised the team’s preparations since arrival in Mexico, will be assisted by goalkeepers’ trainer Daniel Gaspar and set-piece coach/video analyst Gregory De Grauwe,” a publication on the GFA website said on Friday morning.
The friendly against Mexico forms part of the Black Stars’ build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana have been drawn into a challenging group featuring Panama, England, and Croatia for the tournament.
The friendly will help the technical team finalise a 26-man squad for the global tournament scheduled to kick off on June 11.
