Nations FC head coach Zdravko Logarui says the club is still undergoing significant changes as he works to assemble a squad capable of competing in the Division One League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Abrankese-based club appointed the former Asante Kotoko coach ahead of the 2026/27 season following their relegation from the Ghana Premier League.
Despite dropping into the second tier, Nations FC secured continental football after producing a major upset to defeat Dreams FC in the FA Cup final.
With the new campaign fast approaching, Logarui says he is yet to settle on his preferred squad after initially working with a large group of players during pre-season.
We had so many players in the beginning, 40, 50, and last week, a few days ago, we cut some numbers. Now we are staying on 26 players, 22 players, and four keepers, Logarui told the club’s media.
Lets see how things will go. Step by step, we are still expecting one or two players, and I think we are on the right track.
The Croatian coach also acknowledged the challenge of adapting to a new environment and assessing players he had never previously worked with.
Its not easy to come to work in Africa and to work with a team youve never met before. But step by step, I think we are adapting properly, he said.
Lets give ourselves a bit more time because proper observation can give us a proper idea of what we have to do later.
Logarui is particularly conscious of the limited time available to identify weaknesses and make improvements, with Nations FC’s continental campaign set to begin soon.
We are hoping we are going to make proper observations to see our weaknesses, and what we can improve in a very short time because the African games, the CAF Confederation Cup, are coming very soon, he added.
The coach further revealed that the club continues to assess new players, making it difficult to provide an accurate assessment of the team’s readiness at this stage.
We are checking some players. We have a few players who just came two or three days ago. We have some new players, and that means its very hard to give some percentage on how fit we are, how good we are, Logarui explained.
He stressed that the priority is to settle on a core group of players who can form the backbone of the team for the demanding season ahead.
Nations FC will begin their CAF Confederation Cup campaign against Mali’s FC Diarra in the first preliminary round. The first leg will be played in Bamako, with the return fixture scheduled to take place in Ghana in September.
If Nations FC advance, they will face the winner of the tie between Niger’s AS Zam and Burkina Faso’s ASKO de Kara in the second preliminary round.
