Leeds United signed key players Joe Rodon and Jayden Bogle to contract extensions this week and Brenden Aaronson could potentially be the next to join that list.
Aaronson is one of three players (Lukas Nmecha, Ilia Gruev) in Daniel Farke’s squad whose contract is set to expire next summer. The U.S. Men’s National Team attacker has quickly been preparing for the league Premier League campaign after joining preseason late due to his involvement at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Aaronson scored four goals and added five assists in 42 appearances for the Lilywhites last season and enjoyed a positive preseason by delivering two goals and two assists in four outings. The 25-year-old has battled back from some tough moments at Elland Road to remain one of Farke’s leading figures ahead of an opening weekend trip to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Farke did not provide an update on Aaronson’s long-term future with the club, but remains positive that good news could come ahead before the Summer Transfer Window shuts.
“No because we just announced it when there are signatures on everything and like I’ve said several times we want to keep our best players, we want to keep our key players,” Farke said when asked about the trio’s contract situations following the club’s recent announcements of Rodon and Bogle’s new deals.
“Of course you can’t announce everything in four weeks and anyhow it lasts a bit of time because of how important the decisions are and how they are financially,” he added. “Perhaps something will happen in the coming days, I am carefully optimistic but nothing I can announce yet.”
Aaronson has made 131 appearances in three seasons with Leeds United while also spending the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Bundesliga side Union Berlin.
After playing just 77 minutes with the USMNT at the World Cup, Aaronson will hope for a fast start at Leeds United ahead of the next international window in late-September.
Leeds United takes on Nottingham Forest in both league and EFL Cup play before hosting Brentford in their EPL home opener on August 30.
