Luis Enrique believes “everyone is a winner” from the move that saw Bradley Barcola leave Paris Saint-Germain to join Liverpool.
Barcola’s move to Anfield was completed on the penultimate day of the transfer window, the deal coming three years to the day of his switch from Lyon to PSG.
Liverpool paid an initial £106 million (€125m) to the Champions League holders, with the transfer featuring a further £17 million (€20m) in potential add-ons.
Barcola scored 39 goals in his time at the Parc des Princes but coach Luis Enrique conceded that, following PSG’s signings of fellow wingers Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts, he could no longer guarantee the 24-year-old the minutes he desired.
Speaking ahead of PSG’s clash with Monaco on Friday, Luis Enrique said: “Barcola grew enormously in Paris, but he also helped the team grow enormously.
“He wanted more playing time than I could guarantee him. In the end, I think everyone is a winner with that transfer. I truly wish him all the best.”
Barcola could make his debut for Liverpool when they visit Ipswich Town on Friday.
The Reds are still looking for their first win of the new Premier League season, having been held to 2-2 draws by Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest respectively.
