Nathaniel Adjei
Ghana defender Nathaniel Adjei delivered an assured defensive performance as FC Lorient claimed a surprise 1-0 victory away to RC Lens in French Ligue 1 on Saturday.
The visitors secured all three points at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis thanks to Mamadou Kone’s 54th-minute winner after a goalless first half, while Lens finished the match with 10 men following Souleymane Sagnan’s dismissal.
Adjei played the full 90 minutes at the heart of Lorient’s defence, earning a 6.6 rating for a composed display that helped frustrate the home side.
The 23-year-old is pushing for a return to Ghana’s Black Stars squad ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin later this month.
Adjei’s last appearance for the national team came in a friendly against Mexico before the 2026 World Cup in North America.
The former Black Satellites captain made his senior debut for Ghana on 18 November 2024 in an AFCON qualifier against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium. He started the match before being substituted after 40 minutes in a 2-1 defeat.
Lorient will now look to build on their impressive result when they host Toulouse FC at the Stade du Moustoir on Saturday, 12 September, with Adjei expected to retain his place in the starting line-up.
