Croix Bethune has a record all to herself.
The Kansas City Current midfielder recorded her 11th assist of the regular season Sunday, setting a new NWSL single-season record. Vanessa DiBernardo finished the chance in the 17th minute against the Washington Spirit to put Kansas City ahead 2-1.
Bethune first tied the record in 2024, when she recorded 10 assists in 17 appearances for Washington. She shared the mark with Portland Thorns midfielder Tobin Heath, who recorded 10 assists in 2016, and Utah Royals midfielder Cloé Lacasse, who reached 10 assists this past August.
Selected third overall in the 2024 NWSL Draft out of the University of Georgia, Bethune made an immediate impact in Washington, finishing her debut season with five goals and 10 assists. Her performances earned her both Rookie of the Year and the league’s inaugural Midfielder of the Year award.
Traded to Kansas City in February, Bethune has continued to produce in her first season with the Current. The club entered Sunday’s regular-season finale in fourth place, having already clinched a playoff spot. The new record adds another milestone to a career that has seen Bethune establish herself as one of the NWSL’s standout playmakers.
