Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: McKennie, Adams, and more

Weston McKennie entered Sunday’s trip to Lecce seeking his first goal of the season and the American made sure to deliver in his latest opportunity.

McKennie scored Juventus’ opening goal in a 2-0 Serie A victory over Lecce, moving them to seventh in the league standings. The U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder delivered an impactful 90 minutes, setting the tone in an eventual fourth league success for the Bianconeri this season.

McKennie showed great awareness and skill in the Lecce box after 29 minutes, bundling home Douglas Luiz’s free kick into the back of the net. It marked McKennie’s first goal for the club since April 6 and his 28th overall since debuting in 2020.

Luiz doubled Juventus’ lead in the 41st minute, adding his name to the scoresheet after assisting on McKennie’s opener.

Juventus would ride its two first-half goals to three points as McKennie finished the match with three duels won, two clearances, and two defensive recoveries.

McKennie and his Juventus teammates will have a quick turnaround as they next visit Genoa on Wednesday before a highly-anticipated showdown with Napoli on November 1.
