Americans Abroad Weekend Rewind: Tullis-Joyce, Shrader, and more

Things are starting to pick up for Manchester United with goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce at the forefront.

Tullis-Joyce earned Player of the Match honors on Saturday after registering an eight-save shutout in the Red Devils’ 1-0 WSL win over Liverpool. The result marked Manchester United’s fourth win in a row across all competitions and Tullis-Joyce’s second league victory of the campaign.

Julia Olme’s sixth-minute goal would propel the hosts in front before Tullis-Joyce stood on her head the rest of the way. Tullis-Joyce’s eight saves would finish as the most in a single match for her this season as the Red Devils continued their recent turnaround after a sluggish start.

Tullis-Joyce will now head into U.S. Women’s National Team duty in a crucial pair of friendlies against No. 1-ranked Spain, hoping her recent Man United performances can help in a push for the starting job.

Manchester United returns to WSL play on October 18 against Charlton Athletic.

Elsewhere, Korbin Shrader assisted once in Lyon’s shutout win over Toulouse. Julian Eyestone delivered a strong performance despite Rotherham United’s road loss to Exeter City.
