Manchester City’s guilty verdict for financial breaches has rocked the Premier League and has thrown a cloud of uncertainty around the club.
Amid the potential for massive sanctions, several of City’s big names are already being linked with exits. No player will be in more demand than Erling Haaland, should there be an Etihad exodus.
We’ve looked at the bookmakers’ favourites to sign the Norwegian.
5. Paris Saint-Germain – 9/1
Paris Saint-Germain have been the best team in Europe across the last two seasons, storming to consecutive Champions League titles. The French side are sure to be in the mix for the biggest names, even if Ligue 1 lacks the competitiveness of other leading leagues. However, Luis Enrique has done pretty well without a recognised forward in recent seasons.
4. Arsenal – 5/1
Arsenal have already been suggested as a potential destination, in a move that would solidify the Premier League champions as the team to beat in England. The Gunners are a brilliant side, but perhaps lack a genuine A-grader in the final third. Haaland, one of the very best in the world football, would take them to another level. Could he be tempted to unite with Norway teammate Martin Odegaard at club level?
3. Barcelona – 7/2
If there’s one top team with a vacancy at centre-forward, it’s Barcelona. Raphinha’s rehoming has been a roaring success, but the opportunity to sign an elite number nine would be tempting. After failing to sign Julian Alvarez last summer, a move for Haaland would be a serious statement.
2. Bayern Munich – 2/1
Haaland scored 62 goals in 67 league games during his previous Bundesliga spell, the sort of record to pique Bayern Munich’s interest. Harry Kane continues to fire for the German giants but, at 33, won’t go on forever. There would be no better replacement than Haaland for the England captain,
1. Real Madrid – 15/8
Real Madrid are the bookmakers’ favourites, with Galactico signings a regular event at the Bernabeu. Just how the Spaniards would fit Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe and Haaland in the same team is anyone’s guess, but when has that ever bothered Real Madrid before? The biggest club in world football would be a fitting stage for the game’s best goalscorer.
