Xabi Alonso has been very open about Chelsea’s disgraceful defensive stats, and in a recent interview didn’t pull any punches.

We haven’t heard form Xabi Alonso for a couple of weeks because of the international break, but his most recent interview with Stan Sports shows he is focused on the critical weakness of his team – their defending.
They’ve yet to keep a Premier League clean sheet since his appointment, and if that doesn’t change soon things are going to turn very sour.
“It’s very difficult not to concede any goals, but we can do better,” Alonso said.
“We are critical. We are analytical about how we can improve. I have the feeling it will get better, but at the moment it’s not been good enough.”
Chelsea need change – and Alonso is under pressure to deliver it

We all know that it’s not just Alonso’s fault. The run of games without a clean sheet has now reached 21, and Alonso has been in charge for just five of them. It’s an insane stat and one that is truly embarrassing for the club as a whole, from the players to the sporting directors to the manager.
Can we change it against Bournemouth this weekend? It can’t go on forever, and after three weeks on the training pitch, expectations for Alonso will have risen further.
